OPUS stands for Outdoor Places Unusual Spaces

A female-led, multidisciplinary arts and events producing house based in Birmingham.

We believe people make places.

Driven by the passion of experienced combined arts producer, Caroline Davis, the OPUS team offers fundraising, event concept and design, event management and producing services focusing on large-scale, stakeholder-centric combined arts events and festivals.

Facilitating a collaborative working relationship with artists, clients and partners alike, OPUS work to create cultural and artistic interventions in place-based settings that connect people to each other, and to their local spaces around them.

We have a track record of delivery with outdoor arts, sport and leisure, government and corporate / private sector clients, from major large-scale spectacles, to grassroot interventions. Our events take place just about everywhere from civic spaces, shopping centres and train stations, to greenfield and woodland sites - even on public transport!

Working with a regionally based supply chain, we promote the city's and the West Midland's companies, freelancers and organisations. We are pleased to be working towards becoming a registered B-Corporation.

Collaborative

We are working with a range of complex stakeholders, managing their individual and collective needs to deliver meaningful, memorable and creative events. Collaboration and partnership is at the heart of what we do

Purpose-led

The concepts we evolve must be capable of achieving the event’s purpose, flexible enough to serve the full range of stakeholders and achievable within the available resources - but also represent the OPUS principles of having the attending people’s experience at the heart.

Results-driven

We respond to requests for proposals with a socially conscious, fully-scoped and creative approach. Our proposed projects or programmes will always designed to meet your targets and aims, but also leave audiences and artists fulfilled.

Local

As a West Midlands based company, we utilise local supply chains wherever possible to benefit the people and businesses in the immediate area and we promote the city-region and its possibility wherever we can.

Consultancy

The consultancy arm of Outdoor Places Unusual Spaces have conducted event feasibilities for concerts, shopping centre animations, festivals and high street arts programmes.

We are able to provide:

Development of event concept and design

Programming and curatorial support

Detailed capacity modelling and technical specifications with potential supplier site visits

CAD drawings and renders

Ticket modelling and estimated commercial revenue streams plus box office set up

Potential sponsor opportunities including ancillary options such as screen advertising time

Audience mapping and audience development plans

In addition to: evaluation and legacy strategy, funding and financial advice, operational planning, and marketing screen requirements.

For those larger and technically more demanding projects, the OPUS team align strategy with operational and technical excellence by regularly partnering with JA Productions (JAP), a Birmingham based production and event support company, established in 2007. OPUS and JAP are pleased to be working towards ISO 20121 in Sustainable Event Management which will also guide our recommendations to you.

Our approach

As a producing house, OPUS are constantly planning with a curatorial and delivery conscious mind. By working with us you will be investing in relationships.

We are mindful of the space we are operating in; community, civic, corporate and how an event or intervention is designed to work physically, and symbolically in that space, with those audiences.

Testimonials

The entire team were incredibly professional throughout the process, and adapted to any challenges that were faced along the way. I look forward to working with the OPUS team again in future, and would strongly recommend that anyone looking to host outdoor performances in unusual spaces contacts OPUS in the first instance!

Working with OPUS has been fantastic. At every step they have been reliable, creative and efficient. They communicated clearly about any project changes or updates. They provided helpful and thoughtful feedback to project iterations. We found Rebecca a complete joy to work with. She approached things with a positive and hardworking attitude.

Over the last 5 years ACE has formed a fruitful partnership with OPUS. We have presented work at several events produced by OPUS such as Birmingham Weekender, Homecoming of Commonwealth Athletes and the unveiling of the Commonwealth Clock. Each event has been very well organised, with great planning resulting in highly professional experiences on each occasion. OPUS's work enriches the arts and cultural sector in the midlands and we will continue to work collaboratively.
