About
A brand new temporary artistic commission, designed by Birmingham-based designer Anjuli McKenna, was installed in Victoria Square Festival Site from 27 July until 8 August 2022.
Connections reflects how Birmingham's diverse and brilliant communities and individuals encounter and connect with each other across the city. Each part of the design winds and bends, overlapping and interlinking. With the city being the youngest in Europe, with 40% of the population under 25, the artwork embodies the city’s bold, youthful energy. The vibrant artwork is installed within the beating heart of the city, directly juxtaposing the beautiful heritage architecture surrounding the Square.
Anjuli McKenna is a Birmingham born and bred artist, and describes herself as a product of these connections from across the city. Inspired by motion and movement, Anjuli’s work has a unique aesthetic blending clean lines and sleek visuals, synthesising collaged elements with bold shapes to create layered, eye-catching pieces.
